FDO Connect

FDO Connect

Quick facts:

IndiScale drives the development of a tool that generates structured FDOs (FAIR Digital Objects) from unstructured data and thus forms the basis for further AI-supported utilization of data.

Timeframe: Mid April 2025 to the end of October 2025

Funding: FDO Connect is being developed as part of the MISSION KI – National Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Data Economy initiative. MISSION KI is funded by the former Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport until the end of 2025 and implemented by acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering.

Project goals

The aim of FDO Connect is to further advance the exchange of data between different data spaces in research, business and administration. The project builds on the FDO One project, in which the basis for linking data spaces was created. In this context, FDOs function as a new data standard that creates machine-readable, uniquely identifiable and reusable data objects. It thus forms the prerequisite for AI-supported analysis and processing of data.

As part of the project, we at IndiScale are responsible for the development of open source software that extracts structured information (e.g. key-value pairs) from unstructured data (e.g. data sheets in PDF form) and creates FDOs from it. This software will then be tested in use cases such as robotics.

Partners

The project is supported by 18 partners under the leadership of the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG).
