FDO One – FAIR Digital Object Manager
Quick facts:
IndiScale GmbH implements components of the testbed infrastructure and supplies software components for linking data spaces and develops a use case.
MISSION KI is funding FDO One as a project on data exchange standards.
Timeframe: January 2024 – July 2024
The project is part of the initative of the „Deutschen Akademie der Technikwissenschaften“ and the „Bundesministeriums für Digitales und Verkehr“.
Project goals:
The aim is to promote the basis for secure and efficient data exchange between different organizations, industries and countries. The networking of decentralized data spaces is becoming a central factor for economic development and the promotion of science and thus plays an important role in the general strengthening of digital sovereignty.
The core of the project is the development of a prototype infrastructure that enables the standardization of the description of data across different data spaces. The concept of FAIR digital objects (FDOs) plays a central role in the implementation. The project also makes use of technologies like Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC). IndiScale is specifically involved in the implementation of components of the testbed infrastructure and supplies software components for linking data spaces. IndiScale will also be responsible for the development and implementation of a use case.
The ultimate goal is to use FDO One to counteract the heterogeneity of data rooms and pave the way for a standardized architecture in order to eliminate compatibility problems in data exchange.
